Central Criminal Courts

A comprehensive roof refurbishment project was successfully delivered at the Central Criminal Court in London, encompassing approximately 1,700 sqm of critical roof area within one of the UK’s most high-profile and operationally sensitive judicial buildings.

The existing asphalt roofing system, which had reached the end of its serviceable life, was fully removed and replaced with a high-performance tapered warm roof solution. This modern system was specifically designed to significantly enhance drainage efficiency, eliminating standing water risks, while also delivering substantial improvements in thermal performance.

To provide long-term assurance and added value, the works were completed with a comprehensive 20-year warranty.

Given the building’s importance and continuous use, the project was carefully planned and executed to minimise disruption, ensuring seamless coordination with on-site operations and strict adherence to health, safety, and security protocols.

Milne Avenue, Cambridge

This large-scale build-to-rent residential development in Cambridge delivered 373 high-quality new homes and required an extensive roofing and waterproofing package spanning approximately 5,500 sqm.

Skyler delivered a fully integrated solution incorporating waterproofing, insulation, and a variety of roof finishes across the development.

A hot melt waterproofing system was utilised extensively, providing a robust and long-lasting solution ideally suited to large, complex roof areas. This was combined with XPS insulation to enhance thermal efficiency and a ballast finish to ensure durability and protection against environmental exposure.

In addition, selected areas were designed to deliver sustainability benefits through the installation of green roof systems. These incorporated paving walkways to facilitate safe access and maintenance, alongside man safe fall protection systems to ensure full compliance with health and safety requirements.

Monier Road, Hackney Wick

This residential development in Hackney Wick comprises 150 apartments and townhouses across two blocks, requiring a technically diverse and high-performance roofing solution.

Skyler delivered a multi-system package including standing seam metal roofing with Rockwool insulation, bituminous hot melt with foam glass insulation, and liquid waterproofing to address complex detailing.

Roof finishes incorporated green and blue roof systems to support sustainable drainage and biodiversity, alongside paved areas with ballast and bespoke perimeter cappings.

The package was further complemented by modern metal decking on balconies and terraces.

Fully integrated mansafe systems and abseil points ensured safe long-term maintenance.

The result is a durable, compliant, and future-proof roofing solution aligned with modern residential performance and sustainability standards.

Plimsoll Building, Kings Cross

Skyler was appointed to deliver a full waterproofing replacement across balconies, terraces, and roof areas within this prestigious King’s Cross development.

The existing failing hot melt system was fully removed and replaced with a flameless, cold-applied liquid waterproofing solution—specifically selected to meet strict fire safety requirements and enable works to be carried out safely within an occupied residential environment.

Additional enhancements included the installation of brown roof systems to support biodiversity, alongside upgrades to rainwater management to improve overall drainage performance.

The result is a safe, compliant, and long-lasting waterproofing solution that minimised disruption while rectifying ongoing issues with deficiencies in the original waterproofing system.

Delivered within a live residential setting, the project demonstrates Skyler’s ability to provide safe, compliant, and future-proofed solutions, combining technical expertise with a strong focus on resident safety and asset longevity for the client.

Polymex House, Peckham

This new-build development, constructed on the former site of the historic R. White’s Lemonade and Edison Bell factory, delivered a mixed-use scheme comprising 170 residential units and ground-floor retail space. The project included approximately 3,300 sqm of waterproofing works and associated roof finishes.

Skyler delivered a comprehensive roofing and waterproofing package, with bituminous hot melt systems and XPS insulation utilised extensively across the development. This combination provided a durable, high-performance solution offering excellent thermal efficiency and long-term waterproofing integrity.

Blue roof zones were integrated with green roof systems across the development to combine enhanced drainage control and ecological benefits.

Paved finishes were installed across selected roof areas, balconies, and terraces, creating functional and aesthetically consistent external spaces while ensuring protection of the underlying systems.

Lombard Square, Plumstead

This major regeneration scheme delivers 1,913 new homes over approximately 47,000 sqm of residential, community and commercial spaces.

Delivered across three phases, Skyler has undertaken site-wide waterproofing works totalling approximately 22,000 sqm, supporting the phased evolution of the development and ensuring continuity of performance across multiple build stages.

Given the scale and complexity of the scheme, a multi-system approach was adopted to meet varying design, performance, and programme requirements. This included the installation of bituminous hot melt systems, built-up felt roofing, and cold applied waterproofing solutions, all integrated with non-combustible insulation to meet stringent fire safety and regulatory standards.

Roof finishes across the development incorporate a combination of blue and green roof systems, alongside paved and decked areas, delivering a balanced approach to sustainability, water management, and user access.

The result is a robust, high-performance waterproofing strategy that delivers a professional, future-proofed solution for this large-scale regeneration project.

Rennie Estate, Bermondsey

This 12-storey residential development required a carefully engineered, multi-system waterproofing solution designed to deliver long-term performance across a range of roof and balcony areas.

Skyler installed a built-up felt roofing system providing a robust solution well suited to high-exposure zones where durability, reliability, and long-term weather resistance were critical.

The two principal roof areas were finished with a combination of green roof and ballast. These solutions contribute to sustainable drainage performance and improved thermal regulation, whilst also supporting biodiversity.

Private balconies were completed using a cold-applied liquid waterproofing system, offering a seamless and highly adaptable solution ideal for tight access conditions and intricate interfaces.

A fully integrated man safe system was also installed across key roof zones, ensuring safe and compliant access for ongoing maintenance.

Winstanley & York Road Regeneration, Battersea

This project formed part of the wider regeneration of the former Winstanley Estate, delivering 126 new residential units as part of a significant mixed-use redevelopment programme.

Skyler was appointed to deliver a high-performance roofing and waterproofing package across the development.

The main roof areas were completed in a bituminous hot melt waterproofing system, providing a robust, seamless solution suitable for large-scale residential projects. Finishes used were a combination of green roof and ballast, enhancing sustainable drainage performance, improving thermal efficiency, and contributing to biodiversity objectives.

A cold-applied liquid system was installed on the balcony areas, delivering a seamless and highly adaptable solution for complex detailing and constrained interfaces. These were finished with porcelain tiles mounted on a non-combustible pedestal system, providing a durable, low-maintenance, and visually high-quality external finish.

The completed works deliver excellent technical performance with enhanced environmental and architectural outcomes.

Coronation Square, Leyton

This impressive, multi-phased, new-build scheme in East London comprised over 6,000 sqm of waterproofing works delivered across a complex programme of development.

Skyler delivered a fully integrated waterproofing strategy designed to meet the varied technical demands of the scheme while maintaining consistency in performance and quality across all phases.

The package included hot melt waterproofing with XPS insulation, built-up felt systems with integrated PIR insulation, standing seam metal roofing and cold-applied liquid waterproofing solutions, each selected to suit specific roof zones, detailing requirements, and programme constraints.

A key element of the development was the incorporation of blue, green, and brown roof zones, forming a comprehensive sustainable drainage and environmental strategy. These systems were designed to manage surface water runoff effectively, reduce pressure on drainage infrastructure, and enhance biodiversity through varied substrate and planting approaches. Collectively, they also contribute to improved thermal performance and long-term ecological value across the site.

The programme also incorporated a range of additional finishing elements including aluminium decking, and paved roof areas.

To support safe long-term access and compliance, mansafe systems were installed across all principal roof areas, ensuring secure maintenance routes and reducing operational risk for the facilities teams.
